When do the leaves change?

We know that many people want to see fall colors in their portraits but we don't have a crystal ball! Every year is different depending on the weather. Generally, the color begins to change on the trees the second or third week of October. The problem with the leaves changing is that it comes with a killing frost which also zaps all of our beautiful flowers. October is also one of our busiest months so it can be very difficult to reschedule if you don't like the colors that week. Local Weather

What do we wear?

If you are considering wall portraits (11x14 or larger) you may want to select outfits that will complement the style and colors of your home.

Families: In families especially larger ones, coordination is critical. You want to choose colors for your family that are similar and within the same tonal range. We suggest darker and more solid colors. This is to ensure that one member of your family does not stand out more than any other member. You are a family, don't you want to look like you all belong together? Prints often distract from the face, which is what you want the focal point of the portrait to be.

Kids: Pick outfits that express their personality and favorite activities. You are welcome to have your child photographed in as many outfits as you like. However as much as we love our kids they have a tendency to be temperamental, it may be best to begin with your favorite outfit and we will see how it goes form there.

Couples: As much as we all love our individuality please convince your partner to wear complementary clothes. You are a team after all!

Seniors: We suggest you wear tops with long sleeves and that are darker and have simple or no patterns. This allows the eyes to be drawn to your face rather than your outfit, they also have a slimming effect. We also suggest that you bring some clothes that aren't too 'trendy'......classic clothes stand the test of time and you won't experience the 'groan factor' years later.. However we want you to express your personality so bring some fun clothes too!

How long will the session take?

We allow plenty of time for our shoots, so we don't rush you through the session. Please do your best to be ready at or before your scheduled time.

Families/Children/Couples: Generally a session takes only about a half-hour to forty-five minutes. Larger families usually take a little longer due to the greater number of shots taken.

Seniors: A session lasts about an hour. This may change with the number of outfits brought and if any additional props are added.

How long will proofs take?

Proofs can be picked up about a week after the session. We will call you when they are in.

How long do reprints take?

Reprints can be picked up a week and a half to two weeks after the order was placed. We will call you when they come in unless you are having them mailed. Please allow a few extra days for retouch.

Can I order again after I have placed my original order?

Yes you can and there is NO additional fee on top of the price of the reprints! Rox has been in business since 1990 and still has all of her negatives on file. So don't worry, you have plenty of time.

What is included with a session?

With all sessions you are free to choose to have your portraits taken inside, outside or both. You may also change outfits if you choose at no additional cost.. The number of frames taken during a session depends on your needs and what Rox feels is necessary to insure a quality portrait for you or your family.

Families /Kids/Couples: Five proofs are included with the session fee. Additional proofs may be purchased at $7 a proof.

Seniors: Receive about 25 proofs with a session and for an additional charge 10 Black and White, Brown Tone and ‘Creative Art’

(Selective Color and Custom Collages) are included.

What do I do if it rains?

Most of the time we can get a shoot done in between showers (Rox can still take great images in cloudy weather). If you want indoor portraits, this is a good time to do them while waiting for the weather to pass. If you do get rained out we will do our best to reschedule your session as soon a possible. If you are coming from a great distance you may want to call us first and we can help you decide if it is best to come or reschedule. You can check the weather at the studio by clicking on the Local Weather link.

Can I bring my pet?

Go ahead and bring the extra member of the family. You may want to bring someone a long with you that can help tend to your pet while it is not in the portraits. You may also want to bring a leash and water dish.

When do I pay for my portraits?

Half of the balance is due when ordering. The remainder of the balance is due when the portraits are picked up. If you would like to pay in full that is O.K. with us.

How soon do I have to place my order after receiving the proofs?

There is no time limit on how long you have to order. Remember, the sooner you order the sooner you can enjoy your portraits.

Can I bring my own props?

Sure, no problem! We know your 'stuff' is important to you, so feel free to bring anything you want. Our motto is "Rox will shoot it so long as you can get it here and its not poisonous or immoral" and we don't charge anything extra. Bring your sports uniforms, animals, vehicle, friends, musical instruments, and anything else that tells us about who you are.

Do you have any kids clothes, graduation gowns, suit jackets etc.?

We do have a vast variety of outdoor and indoor props but we do not keep any clothes (except for the ones we are wearing) here at the studio.

Do you have Saturday and evening appointments?

Saturdays and evening appointments after 5 p.m. are considered premium appointment times. These are at an additional fee and must be paid in advance to reserve the date. Visa and MasterCard are accepted.

What do I do if it is hot?

To beat the heat, try to avoid appointments during the heat of the day. Schedule an appointment early in the morning.

How do I place my order?

There are many options. Your first option is to come into the studio. Secondly, you can call or fax the order in. Third, you email us your order. Orders placed over the Internet will receive an order confirmation. Lastly, you can mail it the old fashion way, with a stamp and envelope.

How do I get to Rox’s Images?

A map is available. Just click on Map. If you are still not sure, give us a call and we will help.

Do you do black and white?

We can turn any of your color portraits into black and white. Additionally any proofs we show you in black and white can be changed to color. We also offer selective colorization and brown tone prints.

Eyeglasses

Almost all glasses will produce some glare on your portraits and it will cost money to remove it from your finished prints. Rox usually has no problems removing your lenses for you. If you do have a pair that would be difficult to remove, you may want to borrow an empty set of frames from your optometrist.

Tanning

Overexposure to the sun should always be avoided (Thanks mom!). The important thing to note is that you don't look like a lobster or a tiger for your session. Tan lines and redness can be retouched but it may become expensive.

How early do I need to arrive?

It just depends on how long it takes you to get ready. We have plenty of dressing areas so come a little early, ten minutes or so. We allow plenty of time for your session, if you are on time Rox will have no reason to hurry you. If you are late it will just hurt your session as we need to stay on track for the sake of our other clients. Approximate travel times from around the area - St. Joseph (Bluff woods softball complex) 30 min. / Leavenworth (K-7/North city limit) 30 min. / KCI - 50 min. / Topeka (K-4/US-24) 45 min.

Retouching and Restoration

We offer a full line of retouching services from the simple like wrinkles, glass glare and blemishes. To the more complex braces, hair, opening eyes and tan lines. As well as more extensive work like head swaps, adding or removing people, background changes and full restorations.

Braces

Our retouch people can remove braces. It does cost a little bit more but it's better than waiting. You can also talk to your orthodontist and have them removed just for the session.
